Workplace Bullying: Managers & Supervisors

The information in this course is focused on managers and supervisors. However, it is recommended that trainers, the human resources department, any contracted employee assistance professionals, union representatives, and decision-makers attend in order to assist in the workshop’s success.

This course should be provided in conjunction with the company-wide training.

This course is highly interactive, and includes a workbook, activities and assessments.

Course Format

This course is three hours if provided in conjunction with the company-wide training. It is eight hours if provided on its own.

Description

According to research, traditional conflict resolution strategies, such as mediation, are not appropriate for workplace bullying and often make the problem worse.

As such, special knowledge in why bullying happens, how to identify and address it, who the targets are, who the bullies are, how to handle grievances, and how to develop positive and sustainable culture change is imperative for your managers to eradicate bullying behaviors from your workplace.

Learning Objectives

Attendees will:

  • Obtain comprehensive knowledge of workplace bullying as a social phenomenon, and the damage bullying can cause the organization and its members
  • Be able to define workplace bullying and identify bullying behaviors within themselves and their subordinates
  • Understand how to calculate the cost of bullying within their department
  • Develop skills in identifying the symptoms of bullying within their department
  • Understand how to handle formal and informal grievances about bullying
  • Learn how to successfully coach bullying employees in communication skills
  • Learn how to build a values-based culture within their own department
  • Practice developing a positive workplace mission statement and setting goals to achieve it
  • Discover how to build sustainable and measurable action plans for encouraging positive workplace behaviors
  • Practice developing ground rules for professional behavior
  • Become aware of their own communication and conflict management style
  • Develop an action plan for personal improvement to ensure they are setting an example with positive communication

The workshop is very interactive and includes a workbook with assessments, activities and worksheets. A template healthy-workplace corporate policy is also provided.
