New Jersey

The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act prohibits harassment, intimidation and bullying among students. Shouldn’t your faculty and staff be protected too?

Let us help.

On January 6, 2011, with the signing of the “Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act” New Jersey declared that a safe and respectful learning environment is essential for students to achieve academic success.

Any form of harassment, intimidation or bullying interferes with the ability of teachers to teach and of students to learn, and this “Act” will increase prevention of and responsiveness to instances of negative behavior. In turn, every school’s bottom line will see relief from the costs associated with these behaviors and more importantly, students’ lives will be saved.

The “Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act” makes it clear that disrespectful or aggressive behaviors are not only prohibited for children and teenagers, but for students in public institutions of higher education. Unfortunately the “Act” does not prohibit adults (faculty and staff) from harassing or bullying each other, despite the hundreds of research articles that claim bullying among these individuals not only exists, but is damaging for them in the same ways harassment, intimidation and bullying is for young children and teenagers. In addition, as long as faculty and staff are treating each other with disrespect, students will do the same - as long as faculty and staff are harassing each other at work, student learning will suffer.

How We Can Help

The “Act” requires institutions of higher education to adopt a student code of conduct similar to that of school districts. We can help you enforce the new code of conduct, and improve your school environment in order to facilitate a positive environment, through faculty and staff training programs. Although there are many programs available that address student bullying, few address dealing with angry student customers, workplace bullying, or aggressive communication among adults. All of our trainings are focused on building a positive workplace where faculty and staff, and thus students, can thrive.

The benefits of our training programs and consulting services include:

  • A superior learning environment for students
  • Better quality teaching from faculty and “customer” service from staff
  • Improved relationships among faculty and staff
  • Motivated, engaged and healthier faculty and staff
  • Minimized workplace politics
  • Ability to attract better talent due to a positive reputation
  • Reduced instances of student harassment, intimidation and bullying
  • Compliance with the  “Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act”
